Before travelling to China, a very good person told us something roughly like this, "Enjoy that country, try not to hang out just with Spanish, but with Chinese; learn the Chinese language, eat their dishes, drink tea with meals, and immerse yourselves in such a magnificent culture without regard for all the things either seen or read because such an outstanding country is really worth your time. And just experience it with your minds blank". And that is what we have done till the present day.

When being here, something that caught our attention for the very first time was people"s smiling. Everybody smiled us. Such a simple reaction struck us because we were in need of some affection after covid and lockdowns. As social animals, we need to hang out with friends, or just see the city life. As Andalusians, we need to do that like the air we breathe.
Guìyáng has several things to talk about, but today is the turn of them, those who hold the soul of the city. Those who you can see sitting on the sidewalks and corners waiting for a job while playing cards or Chinese chess. Painters, cleaners, laborers, and farmhands. Far from the typical stereotypes, they depict that ethereal feeling which swarms in the air. When looking at their faces, I wonder where they live, how many members they are in their families, or what they expect from life. I couldn"t say that if I didn"t know what working in the streets is and that"s why I couldn"t admire them more.
Beside them, we can see the movement caused by the other part of the city engine, grocery stores, butcher"s, traditional tea stores, restaurants, stallholders, florist stalls, the list goes on and on. Even, the makeshift hairdresser that cuts your hair for little money, or the waiter having a break while smoking a cigar. That is a breath-taking totum revolutum of smells, colours, flavours, sounds and textures that feed our senses.
Everything"s in perfect balance and nothing"s misplaced. This city engine runs due to a sort of a harmonic beat movement, the heartbeat of Guìyáng.
As Simon Van Booy said, "For those who are lost, there will always be cities that feel like home", we feel at home.
